NON-COMBINING FOOD EXPLAINED

Proteins (complete) should be eaten with vegetables only
Vegetables can be eaten with grains, seeds, and starches or protein
Grains seeds and starches should be eaten with vegetables or alone
Fruits should be eaten alone (melons, especially, should be eaten alone or left alone)
DEFINITIONS
- Proteins
Complete = eggs, fish, shellfish, game meats, meats, fowl, amino acids
Incomplete = grains, seeds and starches (soy products)
Milk and dairy products = not recommended for human consumption.
- Vegetables
Green leafy (low glycemic) = greens, brussel sprouts, celery, chives, dulse, kale, parsley, kelp, spinach, watercress
Non-starchy (low glycemic) = alfalfa sprouts, asparagus, bamboo shoots,
cauliflower, garlic, green beans, mushrooms, onion, turnips
Fruit vegetable = cucumbers, eggplant, peppers, summer squash and
zucchini
- Fruits
Sweet fruits = banana, dates, plantain (if dried: apples, apricots, peaches, figs, prunes, raisins and pineapple)
Acid fruits = grapefruit, lemon, lime, tangerine, orange, pomegranates, strawberries (if fresh: apple and pineapple)
NOTE: Tomatoes are an acid fruit, allowed as a vegetable
Sub-Acid fruits = cherries, nectarine, plum, mango, papaya, blackberry, blueberry, cactus fruit, fresh figs, grapes, and raspberry (if fresh: peach, pear, apricot)
NOTE: Acid and sweet fruits are a less desirable combination
- Grains, seeds, starches and legumes
Grains = oats, corn (dried), rice, rye, wheat, millet, barley
Seeds = pumpkin, sesame, sunflower (nuts, almonds, pine nuts, walnuts)
Starches = potatoes, corn, pumpkin, winter squash, rutabaga, beets, water chestnuts
Legumes = lentils, soy beans, peanuts, pintos, kidney
